Normal Blood Sugar Levels Before Meals

Millions of Americans are at risk for developing diabetes mellitus. Managing blood sugar levels is critical in preventing the onset of diabetes. Unfortunately, many people do not know they are at a pre-diabetic stage. If you have a poor diet and do not exercise, it is important to have your health checked by a physician. Most physicians will order a glucose test for patients who are over weight to check the patient’s blood sugar levels.

While diabetics must check their sugar levels throughout the day, many people who do not have diabetes are also checking their blood sugar levels. This is a trend for those who want to become healthy and avoid becoming diabetic.

Normal Blood Glucose Levels Before Meals

Normal glucose levels are between 70 mg and 140 mg. Many glucose charts will indicate the high range, as 150 mg. Glucose levels are generally lower in the morning and before meals. The normal blood sugar levels before meals are 70 mg to 99 mg.

If you check your own glucose levels with a monitor, and you consistently fall below 70 mg before meals, it is recommended you make a visit to your doctor. Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia can be dangerous if left untreated. If you consistently, test above 140 mg, you may have hyperglycemia, which can eventually cause diabetes.

Proper exercise and a healthy diet can help you control your glucose levels. You can read more about lowering your blood sugar levels here and checking your blood sugar here.
